Niles 3-5 ElementaryNiles, Ohio
U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver
This 78,000 SF Elementary School was constructed on the re-developed site of the previous school building. The site was restricted and located in a residential neighborhood. The two story building was a central core with administration, student dining, gymnasium and library with two academic wings oriented for day-lighting. Fifth grade is located on the second floor. The corridors are wide and include breakout spaces where students can do small projects or faculty can hold alternative learning sessions. This low environmental impact design achieved a LEED Silver Certification, by utilizing a variety of strategies, including a high performance building envelope, high efficiency HVAC, solar hot water heating, local materials, low VOC finishes, and materials with a high recycle content.
