Arms Museum Carriage House

Project Description

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is located on the Estate of Olive F. A. Arms on Wick Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio. The Arms Family Museum operates in the main house, where some 120,000 individual objects, from 1790 to the present, are stored and displayed, including costumes and textiles, furnishings, objects of art, china and silver, tools and utensils, business and industry artifacts. The former carriage house on the museum site received an addition, keeping in character with the original arts and crafts architecture, and was converted into an archival/research library. The Society’s archival collection includes manuscripts, maps, atlases, books, letters, diaries, photographs, business and institutional records, all stored in a humidity and climate controlled moveable storage. The second floor was made accessible by the installation of an elevator.
