Project Description

Niles K-2 School was designed to meet or exceed the standards for the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Silver Certification.  The design utilizes a high performance building envelope, several day-lighting strategies, high efficiency heating and cooling, solar hot water heating, and other energy saving designs that will save the district money.

The building was also designed to have a low environmental impact to the site and use local materials, and materials that improve the indoor air quality.

This school has a central core consisting of spaces common to all grades; the cafeteria with stage, the gym, library, and computer room.  Off of the central core there are two academic wings oriented to take advantage of natural light.

Kindergarten has its own wing and extended learning area, first and second grade shares a wing, but each has their own floor and extended learning area; first grade is on the first floor and second grade on the second.
