Orrville Middle SchoolOrrville, Ohio

Project Description

Under the OSFC Expedited Local Partnership Program (ELPP), Orrville constructed a new 74,028 square foot middle school for grades 5 through 8. The plan of the school is a basic square with two exterior learning centers (courtyards) separating the wings. The exterior is designed to reflect the traditional values and Americana setting of this picturesque town, which is also home to iconic jam producer The J.M. Smucker Company.

The north wing contains the 5th and 6th grade, and the south wing contains 7th and 8th grades. Between the two academic wings is the wing for the media center, computer lab, teacher work room and headend room.

The east wing contains the entrance, administration, art room, life skills lab, and industrial technology lab. The west wing contains the cafeteria/stage, kitchen, gym and music department. Each wing contains special education for the respective grades.

The district, known for its forward thinking but frugal philosophy of operating, elected to heat and cool the building using a geothermal (ground source heat pump) system.
